What is an AMHSW?
An Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) is a social worker who has met the Australian Association of Social Workers' (AASW) rigorous standards for mental health practice. It is one of the most respected credentials in the Australian mental health sector.
AMHSWs are recognised by Medicare as eligible providers of mental health services, meaning clients can access Medicare rebates for sessions under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) referred by their GP. This opens the door to a wider client base and positions you as a credentialed mental health professional within the broader healthcare system.
To become an AMHSW, social workers must demonstrate substantial experience in mental health settings, ongoing professional development, and a commitment to evidence-based, ethical practice — all evidenced through a detailed application process assessed by the AASW.

Tier 1 — Exploratory Consultation $220 — single session
Not sure if you're ready or even eligible for AMHSW accreditation? Start here. In this single session we'll review your background and experience, explore your eligibility, and map out what the journey ahead looks like for you. You'll leave with a clear picture of where you stand and what your next steps are — no commitment required beyond the session itself.
Tier 2 — Full Application Support Package $1,800 — 8 sessions
Comprehensive, end-to-end mentoring support from building your roadmap through to final application review. Recommended for social workers who are ready to begin their AMHSW application and want guided, structured support every step of the way.
Includes one complimentary reassessment consultation if your application is unsuccessful on the first attempt (within 12 months of program completion). Because we're invested in your success — not just your application.
Tier 3 — Final Stretch & Submission Package $450–$650 — 2 to 3 sessions
For social workers who have been working on their application independently and need focused, intensive support in the final stages, especially to make sure it is aligned with AASW expectations. We'll review what you have, identify any gaps, highlight your strengths, review your drafts, and make sure everything is polished, cohesive, and ready before you submit.
Perfect if you're nearly there but want an experienced set of eyes before you hit send.
Individual mentoring sessions are also available at $200 per session for those whose needs fall outside of these packages. All sessions are available via telehealth anywhere in Australia or in person at our Essendon office.

Do I need to be eligible for AMHSW before I reach out? Not at all. Part of what we do in the early stages is work through your eligibility together. If you're not quite there yet, we can map out what you need to get there.
How long does the mentoring program take? It varies depending on where you're starting from and how much time you have available. Some people move through the process in a few months, others take longer. The program is flexible and works around your pace.
Is the mentoring available online? Yes. All mentoring sessions are available via telehealth, so you can access support from anywhere in Australia — not just Melbourne.
